The Caravel Group and Fleet Management have joined alongside more than 150 industry leaders and organisations as signatories to the Call to Action for Shipping Decarbonisation to make zero emission shipping the default choice by 2030 and enable full decarbonization of international shipping by 2050.
Developed by a multi-stakeholder taskforce convened by the Getting to Zero Coalition with members across the entire maritime ecosystem, the Call to Action states: Shipping must align with the Paris Agreement temperature goal and be run entirely on net-zero energy sources by 2050. The signatories to this call to action firmly believe an urgent and equitable decarbonization of the maritime supply chain by 2050 is possible and necessary. The private sector is leading the way and taking concrete actions to make zero emission vessels and fuels the default choice by 2030, and decisive government action and enabling policy frameworks are needed now to reach our 2030 and 2050 ambitions.
As it stands today, ships transport around 80% of global trade and account for about 3% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Alongside industry leaders and organisations representing the entire maritime value chain, including shipping, cargo, energy, finance, ports, and infrastructure, The Caravel Group and Fleet Management stand firm behind the Call to Action’s clear message that full decarbonisation of international shipping is urgent and achievable.

The Call to Action for Shipping Decarbonization has been developed by a multi-stakeholder taskforce convened by the Getting to Zero Coalition – a partnership between the Global Maritime Forum, the World Economic Forum, and Friends of Ocean Action. It will be delivered to world Governments in November 2021, in advance of the next UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 26).
